GOOD NEWS!!! Here's an article in TODAY's news - Xeljanz / Tofacitinib has been approved! Now HTLV sufferers can begin to treat their symptoms with this novel JAK inhibitor! Please try a one week dose to see if it helps!
Half a million Americans and 25 million people worldwide are infected with HTLV - the purpose of this site is to educate people about HTLV. As with HIV, denialism also exists about HTLV, but ironically doctors are the most in denial about HTLV - they simply deny that it is a public health problem, and deny that awareness and treatment research are sorely needed. Visit any of the health web sites, such as The Body or MedHelp, and you'll see that most of the doctors on those sites are against even testing for HTLV, dismissing its symptoms as stress related insanity, and even worse, denying that it is an STD. HTLV is very real, and can be transmitted sexually, and when it does not kill, it can ruin your life, causing paralysis and other disorders. The only comprehensive medical forum discussion about HTLV is by Mr. Sadowsky (non-doctor) on The Body web site, and even those discussions are over a decade old.
Have you thought that you had HIV, but tested negative, even with symptoms like chronic fatigue, fibromylagia, dermatitis, floaters, joint and muscle pain, neuropathy, thrush, neck pain, drifting teeth, etc? You should consider HTLV, despite what doctors say, it exists in America, and can be contracted sexually (even via oral sex).
Unlike the 30 drugs created to treat HIV, no drug has been created to treat HTLV - patients today are just told to live with it until death, which must be how patients with HIV were dealt with in the eighties. Like those HIV patients in the eighties, HTLV patients today should band together and lobby for medical research to treat this virus. Since no medical research into treating HTLV is being pursued, the only glimmers of hope for treatment are accidental discoveries, such as the MDS patient in Greece who was apparently cured of HTLV with 8 months of Vidaza (azacytidine), which coincidentally was also used in a research paper to demonstrate that it can eradicate HIV via lethal mutagenesis by Dr. Louis Mansky's lab. Perhaps the antiretroviral properties of azacytidine could work against both HIV and HTLV - what a great therapy that would be, since some HIV patients are also coninfected with HTLV. Also worth noting is that most HIV patients are not tested for HTLV, but for those who are coninfected, the effects of HTLV can be evident, especially with regard to neuropathy.
Azacytidine 's use in regulating cell activity via its demethylation property not only hampers virus replication but also has been used as therapy for:
(1) Correcting cancer cells in bone marrow, bladder, breast, etc.
(2) MDS - myleodysplastic syndrome.
(3) MS - multiple sclerosis.
(4) Sickle cell disease -Increase HbF production / reduces anemia
(5) Enhancing the maturation of neurons.
Apparently azacytidine is integrated into both DNA and RNA, and causes non-functioning virus to be produced, and at the same time awakens crucial suppressor genes that were silenced via methylation. Vidaza is made by a company called Celgene, and it has been enhanced by a company called Clavis with a fatty acid additive (the drug is currently called CP-4200); the fatty acid additive supposedly assists in the uptake of the medication, making it more effective. Please consider lobbying these drug companies to sponsor a clinical trial for the direct treatment and possible cure of HTLV (as was done for the Greek patient) using their drugs - please sign the following formal online petitions to support a clinical trial for treating HTLV and to have the government recognize HTLV as a public health problem:

Incredible news: In addition to the Berlin patient (Timothy Ray Brown), who was functionally cured of HIV via bone marrow transplant & chemotherapy, TWO MORE patients with HIV & Lymphoma were apparently cured of HIV using the same approach - bone marrow transplant and chemotherapy. Apparently HIV & HTLV (both retroviruses) can be cured with the same approach (bone marrow transplant and chemotherapy).
In addition to the chemotherapy / bone marrow treatment, another approach to treating viral infections is hyperthermia (heating the body to over 108F for three hours). This has been shown effective in reducing viral load for patients with HIV, HCV, etc by a Russian team (see "hyperthermia dreams" on the web). And hyperthermia has been suggested to be an effective treatment in a paper by Hatanaka.
Breaking news: The FDA is close to approving Tofacitinib for arthritis - the hidden surprise in Tofacitinib is that since it is a JAK inhibitor, it is an effective treatment against two disorders caused by HTLV: HAM and ATL. If it is approved, this will be the first drug available to HTLV sufferers for HAM and ATL - HTLV sufferers will simply tell their doctors that they have arthritis! Other effective JAK inhibitors include AG490.
